Bowhunters Guiding Bowhunters

Plane at sunset

Stan’s Cessna 206 sits on a remote lake. Stan bought his first plane and started flying right out of high school and has logged thousands of hours of Alaska bush flying. When not guiding he flies for an air cargo company and delivers fuel and freight in vintage DC-6 and C-46 aircraft to mines and villages thoughout Alaska.

Denali Hunts was started in 1987 by myself, owner/operator Stan Parkerson, as an air taxi that catered primarily to drop-hunts for bowhunters. The bowhunting theme is something that is close to my heart. I started bowhunting small game as a young boy with my father in Ohio. At age 13, we moved to Alaska and my love of bowhunting only grew. In 1978 I killed a black bear—my first big game animal—with a bow. Soon to follow were moose, caribou and Dall sheep. Now the list has grown to 14 species.

In 1998 I became a licensed registered guide/outfitter and the business evolved from drop-hunts to fully-guided hunts, still catering to the serious bowhunter.

The guides at Denali Hunts are all seasoned Alaskan bowhunters with polished wilderness skills. Our staff is active in bowhunting legislation and is made up Pope and Young measurers, bowhunter education instructors and members of numerous conservation organizations. Most of all we all love to bowhunt and several of us have harvested over 50 big game animals with numerous record book entries. I strongly believe the combined experience of our bowhunting guides along with the top trophy areas we hunt make Denali Hunts the best guide service available for the serious bowhunter!

Stan Goes Hunting!

Stan huntingStan with trophy grizz

Usually the reason a person gets into guiding is that they love to hunt. Well, I’m no different. Many say that when you do it for a living it takes the fun out of it. Well it is work but it is still fun especially when you’re the one letting go of the string! I’ve added a photo gallery of my own hunts to my web site so that those browsing can see the type of hunting I do. I try to go on at least three hunts a year (1 or 2 out of state). As many of you may experience with your own families, mine feels that I hunt too much. I don’t think I hunt enough!

My most recent hunt was an Alaska brown bear.  I’ve been trying to draw this tag for twenty years! This hunt was well worth the wait I ended up taking this 10’ 2" brownie at 10 feet front on. We estimated it weighed 1200 pounds and it scores 27 3/16 P & Y points. This places him in the 11-12 spot in the record books. I hope you enjoy the photos!
